PvX Wiki is full of terrible builds. I prefer to use effective builds.

i use builds from guildwiki, or pvxwiki as it is now, it's easier to use someone else's wheel than it is to constantly reinvent the wheel. they provide a good starting point of something that at least baseline works for you to base further works off of, and show you new skill interactions that you might not have thought of.
of course, once you become an expert at a class, you either know most of the combos or can come up with your own builds that work well.

I read it and rate the occasional build that seems worth washing through a couple rounds of RA. PvXWiki are doing a better job than GuildWiki at keeping the trash out. (I wish they would stop using the silly Build: namespace.) In my opinion, the utility of such a wiki is not so much in copying a build but in seeing skills used in interesting tactical combinations. Burying that in mostly useless attributes and equipment trivia seems like wasted effort.
Now, about using these builds seriously, I have yet to find one that will significantly alter my standard ranger, monk and mesmer bars.

Eh I used to use the builds off of Guildwiki when they had them on there. Fortunately, I've broken off of that and have been having fun ever since. Good place to get some ideas, though.

Only time I really use it for builds is when I'm in places like elite missions where the only available groups are elitist noobs who will kick you instantly if your build doesn't conform 100% to the current cookie cutter on wiki. It sucks but in places like the deep thats all you can get a group with.

QFT. I dont know why some people look down or actively trash Wiki and the builds within them. It IS good for research, and tweaking some of those builds posted on there makes for interesting results ... esp tweaking PvP-based builds and then applying them in PvE.
Also, I have stumbled upon builds myself focusing on exploiting overpowered skills and synergizing them with other skills ...only to have found out it was an actual Wiki build, not to my surprise either, as it is the nature of the game.

Well, I see it more like this:
10 Hey, this is crap
20 Goto 10
Sometimes there are good builds, but I could generally have used that time to try out my own builds which does something wiki doesn't. It teaches me why things are good/bad instead of "slap this on and win."

I look up farming builds sometimes as I don't feel like actually taking time out to think of most of them.
When I want a new build there is an odd occasion that I will find a build on there, gut it, and rebuild it to suit what I want.

Get my farming builds from farming partners, use random PvP builds for AB, which I find on PvXwiki.

I look at them for ideas and modify to my liking. All my best builds I made myself.

Never even looked, have no desire to.
Obs mode > PvX wiki
For pve, knowing what I'll be facing and being familiar with all the skills means I can make an efficient build on my own more quickly than browsing through a billion bad ones.

I only use it for farming builds. Heroes I mostly just make up my own stuff. However, I often find myself using builds posted here on Guru. Just found a 3hero set that has me ballin' () through HM

Never.
I feel that I learn more about particular skills and become more familiar with their usage, along with combinations, simply by experimenting on my own.

i've never copied a build from the site as i've found most (all) of them to be severely lacking, but occasionally people tell me to stop using wiki builds. go figure.

The PvX builds are a great place to start for beginners of a particular class or the game in general. It's also a decent source for ideas if you want to try some new synergy. To copy the builds and use them as they are is just not taking advantage of one of the main things that makes GW so fun - making the builds in the first place.
